How To Choose the Perfect Wedding Theme
Choosing a wedding theme is the first step to planning the perfect wedding. In fact, many times the theme comes before setting the date itself. However, for many newly engaged couples choosing the perfect theme can be quite a task. With the millions of wedding ideas currently available, the best way to choose a theme is to just start gathering ideas. As you gather ideas you like, you’ll notice that a theme will naturally start to emerge. Here are four ways to help soon-to-be bride’s and grooms choose the perfect theme.
Make a Scrapbook
One of the first things that many freshly engaged women do is purchase a bridal magazines for inspiration. As you browse through magazines, cut out pages or items that you like. Include items such as dresses, flower arrangements, table settings and even colour combinations. Arrange each of the magazine clippings into categories by theme and place them into a scrapbook. You could do this by arranging items associated with a particular style of wedding in its own category.
When looking for a scrap book there are a few options available for you. You could purchase an official scrapbook or make your own. Most local stores and art shops will sell scrap books. Some have lovely embellished covers and others can be less fancy.
Creating your scrap book can be really fun. You can be as decorative or as simple as you like. Alternatively you can make your own scrapbook out of a three-ring binder with sleeved pages.
Don’t stop with just magazine clippings. Your scrapbook can also contain fabric swatches for bridesmaid gowns or paint chips that inspire wedding colours. If you find flowers that you like, dry them and add them to the scrap book too. As you accumulate your ideas, note any commonality such as colours, whether they are modern and trendy, or old fashioned and traditional. These traits will help you choose your theme.
Create a Pinterest Board
Pinterest is your very own digital scrapbook. Very simple to use, Pinterest allows you to pin images that you like and save them onto pin boards. Best of all, you can find wedding theme ideas from millions of other people. Instead of setting up a single “wedding board”, setup a different board for each wedding theme that you are considering. For example, you may want to create a vintage inspiration board, a contemporary board and a classic wedding board.
Alternatively create boards for different aspects of your wedding such as wedding stationery, venues and table decorations. Pinterest allows you to follow other people’s boards too. So begin by searching your favourite wedding magazine, the chances are they will have some great wedding themed boards for you to follow. So as you browse Pinterest, or other internet sites on your phone, be sure to pin photos along the way.
Interview Yourself
One of the best ways to choose a wedding theme is to interview yourself and your groom (or get a friend to do it for you). The aim is to get to know your personalities and acquire a list of things that you both like such as hobbies or travel areas. Think about asking the following questions; What types of food or drinks do you prefer? What are your favourite colours? What are your dream holiday destinations?
Ask questions regarding what clothes you like to wear, whether you prefer a formal or more casual wedding environment. These questions will enable both of you to have your say and should leave you with a list of potential ideas to be incorporated into your theme.
There’s An App for That
Most brides are attached to their smart phones or tablets, so it makes sense that there are apps that can help choose a wedding theme. Apps give you instant access to wedding trends around and keep you up to date with all you need to know. Wedding LookBook by The Knot allows you to search for the perfect wedding dress themes, not just for you and your bridesmaids, but for the mother of the bride dresses too.
Utilizing wedding apps help you organize every aspect of your wedding from choosing the theme to your wedding day checklists. Apps are an easy, efficient way to find inspiration for your theme and to share with friends and family.
By following these steps you are sure to find your perfect wedding theme. Whether you choose to create a scrap book, download an app or do both you will be able to choose a theme that suits your personality, likes and your budget.
